What is Chiropractic?

     Chiropractic embraces the natural healing ability of the body.  Chiropractors know the body is at its most effective state when the nervous system is able to efficiently coordinate regulatory and repair mechanisms. Every function and process of the body is controlled by the nervous system which functions as the master controller within the body. On a daily basis, our bodies encounter bacteria, viruses, inclement weather, physical and emotional stress, and a host of other adverse conditions. Despite all of this, we are able to adapt to and overcome these obstacles thanks to our nervous system.

     The nervous system consists of the brain, the spinal cord, and the nerves which flow to every organ, gland, and muscle in the body. The brain is securely enclosed within the skull but the spinal cord and spinal nerves are housed in a tunnel composed of 24 movable segments of bone called “vertebrae”. Additionally, at the bottom of the vertebral column lie the sacrum and coccyx which collectively make up the structure commonly referred to as the “tailbone.”

     Misalignments in the spine can create interference to the normal function of the nervous system and reduce the efficiency of that powerful but delicate system of communication pathways. By inhibiting the effectiveness of the nervous system, misalignments in the spine called “SUBLUXATIONS” reduce the ability of the body to operate at 100% of its full potential. Just like any finely tuned machine, imbalances in the body lead to larger consequences when they are compounded over time. The health of the body is dependent upon the uninhibited transmission of 100% of messages to and from the brain. Any deviation from 100% nerve transmission leads to a decline in health. While the effects of this decline may not be immediately apparent, over time effects of nerve interference can appear through a variety of symptoms.
